EcoBuilders of Virginia was started in 2008 by Gayle Johnson, a Class A green contractor, LEED Accredited Professional, Certified Green Professional and a Master Conserver since 1978. With an extensive network of  building professionals who have been dedicated to building green for decades, we help make green affordable. Together we create aesthetically pleasing, energy efficient renovations and new construction with outstanding energy efficiency. EcoBuilders provides excellent value for median cost, efficient project management, and quality construction. We stay current on the latest in tax credits and rebates which help you save money.

EcoBuilders is a partner in the Energy Star program. ENERGY STAR qualified products and practices help you save money and reduce greenhouse gas emissions by meeting strict energy efficiency guidelines set by the U.S. EPA and U.S. DOE. The ENERGY STAR label designates superior energy performance in homes and buildings and is the basis for the energy efficiency segment of most other green building certifications.

 

EcoBuilders is a certified green contractor with US Green Building Council and participates in USGBC’s LEED for Homes and ReGreen programs, providing an integrated evaluation that considers all aspects of creating an energy efficient home. Through its intense documentation of the building process, LEED provides accountability that a building is built as designed and performs as expected, and credibility because of its third party certification. EcoBuilders is a member of the local chapter of USGBC, the Hampton Roads Green Building Council. 

EcoBuilders is a member of NAHB, the National Association of Home Builders, and the Green Building Council of its local affiliate,  Tidewater Builders Association. Ms. Johnson is also a Certified Green Professional with NAHB, offering another green building certification that provides third party verification that the home is built to higher green building standards.

We are passionate about the potential of passive solar design and are currently incorporating Passive House standards into our work.

EcoBuilders of Virginia is an EPA Certified Firm and provides EPA Certified Renovators to ensure the safe removal of surfaces painted with lead paint.

We lead by example. Our office is carbon neutral, our website host is powered by solar and wind power, and we drive energy efficient hybrids. We recycle all possible building and office materials. We print with soy based ink on recycled paper.  We minimize the use of paper in our operations to the greatest extent possible.
