Passive Solar Home in Virginia
EcoBuilders specializes in passive solar homes. Simply by designing the placement of windows to maximize solar heat gain in winter and minimize solar heat gain in summer can decrease energy usage by 25%!
Debra Coleman of Sun Plans designed a passive solar home for EcoBuilders which complements the historic styles prevalent in Tidewater Virginia while maximizing the sun’s power. It easily fits a standard 50′ x 150′ lot that faces south.

Designed with the changing needs of families in mind, there is a bedroom and bath on the ground floor to accommodate aging or an unexpected broken leg or surgery that temporarily precludes use of the steps. The second floor can have three bedrooms and two baths or four bedrooms and one family bath. By separating the family bath into three functional areas, a family of four can easily get of the house in the morning at the same time.
